NSFAF, ein Fonds für namibische Studenten der sie bei ihrem Studium finanziell unterstützen soll, hat heute bekannt gegeben, dass geplant wird von nun an keine Berufsausbildungen mehr zu finanzieren. Studenten die ab dem nächsten Schuljahr, das im Januar 2015 beginnt, auf ein Vocational Training Centre in Eenhana, Okakarara oder Windhoek gehen möchten, müssen dies nun privat finanzieren. Eine endgültige Entscheidung sei noch nicht gefallen, so Percy Tjahere, Kommunikations- und Marketingchef des NSFAF. Es ist jedoch davon auszugehen, dass dieses Vorhaben in die Realität umgesetzt wird, da die Finanzierung von Ausbildungen eigentlich nicht im Aufgabenbereich des Fonds liegt.  Vocational Training Centres werden nicht als Hochschulen angesehen.

Der NSFAF vergibt zinsgünstige Kredite an Studenten mit flexiblen Rückzahlungsraten. Eine Einstellung der Kreditvergabe an Auszubildende würde große Probleme nach sich ziehen. Viele Schüler haben nicht ausreichend gute Noten um auf die Universität zu gehen sowie nicht die finanziellen Möglichkeiten, da die Studiengebühren noch höher sind als bei einer Ausbildung. Das führt wiederum zu weniger Fachkräften, die die namibische Wirtschaft dringend benötigt um wirtschaftlich voranzukommen. Namibische Schüler hoffen nun, dass die finanzielle Unterstützung nicht eingestellt wird oder ein neues Programm für Auszubildende gegründet wird. Ansonsten ist für viele die Ausbildungslaufbahn zu Ende, bevor sie richtig begonnen hat.

The Namibian Student Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) has announced that they are considering to stop the funding of students going to Vocational Training Centres in Eenhanda, Okakarara and Windhoek. Students wishing to attend one of these Vocational Training Centres, will have to fund their studies from the private pocket. There has not been made a final decision, according to Percy Tjahere, Marketing and Communications Director of NSFAF. However, it is expected that the plan will be conducted as the funding of VTCs is not within the tasks of the fund that is only supposed to finance higher education institutions. VTCs are not considered as such.

To refrain from giving loans would have severe consequences. Many students neither have sufficient marks to attend university nor have they the funds to finance studies at a tertiary institutions as their tuition fees are significantly higher than those of the VTCs. This, in turn, will lead to a lack of skilled labour that is urgently needed in the Namibian economy in order to progress economically. Namibian students now hope that the plan is not put into reality or that a new programme will be implemented. Otherwise, the career of many young people would come to an ende before it has started.
